Finnish Melodic Death Metal Legends Norther Announce Long-Awaited Return in 2027 with Classic Lineup and New Music

After more than 15 years away from the spotlight, Finnish melodic death metal pioneers NORTHER have officially announced their return. Reuniting with their classic lineup and working on brand-new material, the band is set to make a highly anticipated comeback to the international metal scene in the summer of 2027. First festival announcements include the legendary Wacken Open Air in Germany and Brutal Assault in Czech Republic.

Originally formed in 1996 under the name Requiem before adopting the name NORTHER in 1999, the band became one of Finland’s most influential melodic death metal acts during the early 2000s. Combining aggressive riffing, memorable melodies, and high-energy live performances, NORTHER built a devoted global following and helped shape the modern Finnish metal sound.

The band’s breakthrough arrived with the acclaimed album “Mirror of Madness” in 2003, which established NORTHER as a major force within the international metal community. The success continued with celebrated releases including “Death Unlimited,” “Till Death Unites Us,” and “N.” Fan favorites such as “Mirror of Madness” and “Frozen Angel” remain staples among melodic death metal listeners worldwide.

For their return, NORTHER reunites the lineup that defined the band’s most successful era: Petri Lindroos (vocals, guitar), Kristian Ranta (guitar), Jukka Koskinen (bass), Tuomas Planman (keyboards), and Heikki Saari (drums).

In addition to returning to the stage, the band has confirmed that new music is currently in development, marking NORTHER’s first new creative chapter in over a decade.

Reflecting on the reunion, vocalist and guitarist Petri Lindroos said: “15 years of rest on ice did us good, and now its time to return to the stages. There were many places we didnt get to play back then, and now is their time. Were really excited to see where this road takes us.”

Further details regarding new music, live performances, festival appearances, and international touring plans will be announced in the coming months.

For fans of Finnish metal and the broader melodic death metal community, NORTHER’s return represents one of the genre’s most significant reunions in recent years.
