SONG OF THE DAY: Silent Anthem – Dreams Of You

Okay, now. It seems my never-ending quest to score new music findings on different platforms paid off big time, once again, when I stumbled upon this gem. SILENT ANTHEM, as far as I could gather, is an up-and-coming electronic-rock artist from Russia – something so underground still that there are fewer than 1,000 followers on Instagram. There isn’t much information available online, but there are quite a few singles on Spotify, all released in 2025, from among which I felt compelled to pick “Dreams of You” for a review because, quite frankly, this song fucking rocks!

This song was released in early August through the independent electronic music label and distributor, Goost Music. When I first heard it, I was immediately impressed by its piercing, atmospheric melancholy. The song kicks off with a minimalist piano motif and ethereal synth textures, on top of which the vocals recount telltale metaphors of solitude and memories of a lost love – yeah, clichéd but oh-so effective, especially when the chorus delivers a heart-stopping blow with distorted power chords and all. Sure, the chorus does resonate quite strongly with the air of SPIRITBOX and Amira Elkefy, and the melody in the chorus is more than just subtly reminiscent of the Billie Eilish song, “Lovely,” the metal cover of which, courtesy of TIME, THE VALUATOR and Charlotte Buchholz, traverses similar, atmospheric-metal terrain. Then again, with the hook being comprised of such a simple motif, it is prone to sound similar to something that’s already been done. I wouldn’t go as far as to claim that every melody in the world has already been written at least once, as did that famous thought experiment by Damien Riehl and David O’Brien, but the catchiest ones probably have.

The way the distorted guitars and synths create haunting textures is also strongly reminiscent of the magnificent British electronica outfit NEON FIELDS. The vocalist, whoever he may be, is every bit as impressive as Ed Barrett from that British bunch, albeit he seems to appear only on this song – those other singles feature female vocals (which are just as haunting, mind you). In light of SLEEP TOKEN‘s most recent forays into soft, electronic pop, I think this is the direction they should be heading, rather than the Taylor Swift aesthetic they opted for in the song “Past Life,” but that’s just my uneducated opinion. Well, long story short, I’m pressing the Follow button on Spotify. This artist went straight to the top on my Best New Findings of 2025 list with this song. SILENT ANTHEM has a beautiful knack for capturing the sound of being hurt and haunted.
