What to expect at Tuska 2019 – Day 3



The official countdown to Helsinki’s favorite festival has begun, less than one month to go until the heavy metal party can begin at Tuska Festival. Read this festival special to see what you can expect at Tuska Festival. This is the third part of our festival special, we’ll break it down for you day by day, band by band.

KAISER - Stoner Rock

KAISER is a Helsinki-based stoner and desert rock trio formed in 2013. The band went and jumped straight in the deep end and published their debut album "1st Sound", produced by the legendary Hiili Hiilesmaa, last year. Right away it was clear that this band knows what they're doing, and KAISER has now been playing live both in Finland and abroad, in June the band is playing at Tuska on Sunday.


LEVERAGE - Heavy Metal

The Finnish band LEVERAGE let their fans wait for a follow-up for 10 years, but the time has finally come and LEVERAGE have released their latest album "DeterminUs". The band is known to combine heavy rock and metal classics with melodic rock. The album also introduces Mikko Salovaara (ex-Kiuas, Metal De Facto) as a guitarist, and Kimmo Blom as a vocalist. HEVISAURUS - jura heavy metal

It's no secret that the Finns love heavy metal, and think that heavy metal is for everyone, how big or small that doesn't matter. HEVISAURUS agrees, and is the first heavy metal band on Earth targeted at young children. HEVISAURUS is thus the main act of Tiny Tuska. The band plays authentic jura heavy metal, and all ages get to enjoy their show. 

I REVOLT - Thrash/Death Metal

Last year I REVOLT made it to the finals in the Tuska-Torstai contest, and won the Finnish and Nordic Emergenza Festival. This year around, the band gets a spot at Tuska, and they'll definitely show us their authentic thrash and death metal. Definitely go check out their latest single "Muse Racist". Known for his candid and direct comments, FRANK CARTER AND THE RATTLESNAKES bring their mixture of hard rock and groovy punk to Helsinki! The band recently released their third album "End Of Suffering" in May. 


DARK SARAH - Cinematic Metal

DARK SARAH is a the project of Heidi Parviainen (ex-AMBERIAN DAWN) that combines elements of metal music, film music and music theater. The albums are concept albums and tell a story of a young woman Sarah and her evil side persona DARK SARAHThe Finnish pioneers of cinematic metal released the album The Golden Moth last year, completing their phantasy trilogy. The amazing voice of Heidi Parviainen is now complemented with the deeper tones of JP Leppäluoto (CHARON).


JINJER - Progressive Metal/Groove Metal

JINJER is a Ukrainian 4-piece progressive metal band with strong hardcore and groove metal origins. JINJER were formed in 2010, when Tatiana Shmailyuk joined the guys as a vocalist. In 2013, the band were acknowledged as the best metal band of the year in Ukraine. The band is currently working on a new album, which will hopefully see the light of day in fall 2019. 


PALEHØRSE - Desert Rock/Progressive metal

PALEHØRSE is perhaps a new face in the scene. The band was formerly known as Amendfoil and recently became a trio, then changed its name and sealed a deal with a Norwegian record company. The trio from Tampere combines desert rock with prog metal and technical virtuosity, the band published their debut album "Palehørse" in April, which has paved the way to the international metal audiences.


BEHEMOTH - Black Metal

There are only a few bands who manage to generate an intense live show, and the Polish black metal act BEHEMOTH is definitely one of them. After a stellar album "The Satanist", the band focused on touring and recently released what is perhaps their most accessible album up-to-date "I Loved You at Your Darkest". In other words, or Nergal's words: "It doesn't get more blasphemous than this!". RYTMIHÄIRIÖ is an act unthinkable of not being part of the festival summer. That's why their presence at Tuska 2019, is not a surprise, it's meant to be. The four-piece started their musical path with hardcore, but found their home in metal and are now moving towards a more groovy sound. Last year the band played a legendary show as a support to STAM1NA, read that review here




Founded by the brother-sister team Lzzy and Arejay Hale when they were 13 and 10 years old, respectively, HALESTORM have been conquering stages all around the. Their second album "The Strange Case Of..." included the Grammy-Award winning track "Love Bites (So Do I)". With their new album "Vicious" the band challenged themselves by releasing their most aggressive collection of songs as of yet. We're definitely looking forward to see them live!



The HELLACOPTERS have the exciting task to close down the festival, and therefore are the headliners of Sunday evening. The band from Stockholm have a gift to rock 'n' roll, were formed in the mid nineties, and have surprised us with seven amazing albums. The Swedish action rock act took a break in between 2008 and 2016, but are now back for more.
