Having long grown bored of the pop turn that country music artists took in the 2000s, Canadian newcomer Cory Marks has been a breath of fresh air with his unique take blending country music with rock and heavy metal. Heavily influenced by artists like Merle Haggard and Ozzy Osbourne, Marks has been on our radar the moment we heard his name. As such, “Devil’s Grin,” his latest release from last month, was an immediate must-listen as soon as we heard it was out.
Starting off with an upbeat, stomping rhythm, the song comes right out as a troubled heart type of song song about the lying, cheating type of woman. Toxic and thrilling relationships have always been a staple in country music and the catchy melodies, easy singalong-able “oh ohh oh-oh” parts, along with the great guitar work make the song both thrilling and fun, easy to rock out to or dance along with, depending on your mood. This song will be great to hear live… someday!
Marks has been streaming twice weekly (Wednesdays and Saturdays) on his social media platforms. Marks will be touring in July with BREAKING BENJAMIN and co. and we also did an interview with him back in February!
