It’s hard to be unique in music in this day and age, especially when heavy metal is getting more and more diverse. Fortunately, there’s a lot of creativity out there still and VOLYMIAN have proved that they’ve got a lot of it! The recent release of their recent EP, “They Never Come in Peace,” on July 9th, 2021, the band has shown off an entirely new album, as well as a fully new style and lineup. Now they are back again with a new single from the EP, “War Machines,” which will be released tomorrow. However, if you just can’t wait, you can check it out already here!
“War Machines” the EP’s fantastic final track, which opens on a slow, ambient note before moving up in energy as the growls come in. The song maintains a catchy melody throughout the rough vocals, while the clean vocals come in during the chorus. This song in particular really highlights the strengths in Nitte Valo‘s voice and it’s a treat to hear her back in the scene in a lead (or co-leading) role, as opposed to as a guest. The video is unsettling from the start, with a black-and-white, burning winter playground and abandoned, rotting buildings in the scenery. There, a dirty and possibly bloody (it’s hard to tell in black and white) woman awakens to find everyone around her dead or catatonic. It has a very post-apocalyptic and slightly disturbing feel to it. Be sure to watch all the way to the end too, in case you miss something!
Be sure to check out our recent interview with the band as well!
