On November 5th, Swiss ambient post-black metal band E-L-R and Belgium’s experimental psychedelic black metal/ambient act WOLVENNEST performed at Privetclub in Berlin as the last stop on their “The Dark Path To The Light Tour.”

The club was cozy and small, almost homely, with warm vintage floor lamps and couches. The stage was adorned with decorations set for E-L-R, including a tall flowery ornament resembling a flower circle and round carpets. They opened with “Opiate the Sun,” immediately creating an eerie atmosphere. S.M. and I.R.‘s voices harmonized perfectly with the slow, dark tunes of their instruments, mesmerizing the crowd. They continued with the venomous “Three Winds” and closed with “The Wild Sore.” E-L-R is the live act that always delivers high-quality sound and a mysterious atmosphere to their shows.

WOLVENNEST was up next. The stage was too small to accommodate all the members with their instruments. An altar with a skull and lit candles created a ritualistic mood. They opened with “Adversaries” and immediately immersed the crowd in a dark atmosphere. Shazzula created an eerie mood with a theremin and a wide range of vocals, from clear singing, choirs, whispers, and spoken passages to growls. The instrumental passages were often quiet and repetitive, and, together with the mystical, ritualistic vocals, managed to almost put the listener into a trance. They played most of the tracks from their latest album, “The Dark Path to the Light.”
