It has been a while since the last time black metal arrived in Turku. That changed on October 23rd, 2026, when VICTIMARUM, WÖMIT ANGEL, BLACK MASS PERVERTOR, and FLAME came to Turku’s Nirvana club to treat us all to an evening filled with nice, relaxing sounds of black metal. No sarcasm; I am a person who genuinely finds black metal soothing. Anyways. The evening started with a performance by VICTIMARUM, who just celebrated the first anniversary of their first LP this October. If you haven’t yet listened to it, please treat yourself, because it is worth your time. Next up was WÖMIT ANGEL, a trio from Tampere. They too have a fresh release called “Spermhamforash,” which is a bit goregrind-y wordplay on the Kabbalistic invocation “Shemhamforash.” They delivered a truly crushing performance, warming the audience up for the next band, BLACK MASS PERVERTOR, coming to us all the way from the cold Lapland. The group from Tornio plays a mix of black metal and punk with a sprinkle of satanic and occult lyrics. The highlight of the night was the performance of FLAME, a group that this year marked its 26th year of existence with the release of a new LP, “Ignis Draconis Daemonicus.” I’d recommend their music to any fan of classic, rich, heavy, like-hell-itself black metal.
Overall, the night was a great celebration of what the darkest and heaviest metal can offer.
