After 21 years of inactivity, the Los Angeles-based trio DOGSTAR reunited and embarked on a European tour. With local support RESOLUTIONS on June 15th, 2024, the tour stopped at Huxley’s Neue Welt in Berlin.
RESOLUTIONS opened the evening. The venue was already packed with excited fans. The Hanover-based band’s sound is reminiscent of big names such as BRAND NEW, JIMMY EAT WORLD, and MINUS THE BEAR. They merge punk with emo and alternative influences to create easy listening with depth and plenty of variety. They performed songs from their latest record “Monster Mirror.”
DOGSTAR reunited after 21 years of inactivity and released a new album, “Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.” The Berlin crowd was over-enthusiastic to see their favorite band. The venue vibrated and roared when the trio appeared on stage. The band consists of drummer Robert Mailhouse, bassist Keanu Reeves, and guitarist Bret Domrose. The setlist of 19 songs featured a mix of beloved classics and new tracks from their latest album. Domrose’s compelling vocals and guitar riffs, along with Mailhouse’s steady drumming, showcased the band’s musical prowess. Keanu Reeves added his cool, laid-back presence, engaging with the crowd in his unique style. The show was enjoyable, featuring melodic songs like “Blonde,” “Lust,” “How the Story Ends,” and “Glimmer.” These tracks evoked a nostalgic feeling, reminiscent of your dad making music with his friends in their garage and drinking beers. The band also performed a cover of THE CURE’s “Just Like Heaven.” Many fans seemed more interested in capturing moments of Reeves on their phones rather than fully engaging with the music. This detracted from the collective concert experience. Overall, it was a fulfilling evening of music and joy.
