Dutch symphonic metal juggernauts WITHIN TEMPTATION is currently undertaking their lengthy European Bleed Out tour. Together with post-hardcore outfit ANNISOKAY, they had a mandatory stop in Berlin for their German fans at Velodrom on October 14th, 2024.
It was my first time hearing ANNISOKAY and they made a solid impression. Combining harsh vocals with cleans, they delivered a vibe to the arena that transported us back to the 2010s. A surprise was when WITHIN TEMPTATION vocalist Sharon den Adel joined for the song “Like a Parasite.” The second pleasant surprise was an impressive cover of LINKIN PARK‘s “One Step Closer.”
WITHIN TEMPTATION are the veterans of symphonic metal led by vocalist Sharon den Adel. The stage production was impressive, with tall columns and LED screens projecting sticking imagery. They opened with the powerful “We Go to War” about the current war in Ukraine with images of soldiers in the background. Sharon den Adel wore an intricate crown that covered her face, reminiscent of a halo. They continued with “Bleed Out” and the stage was lit red. The song “Shed My Skin” featured ANNISOKAY‘s Christoph Wieczorek‘s clean vocals. Unfortunately, photographers were escorted out of the arena after the third song, so we couldn’t see the whole show, but you can read our live report about the band’s show in Helsinki here.
