On February 10th, 2025, Olympia in Tampere was the place to be. For the occasion, we would be able to enjoy some stoner rock, doom, and Gothic metal with bands from around the world: GREEN LUNG, UNTO OTHERS, and SATAN’S SATYRS.
Olympia used to be an old theater, so the venue had an amazing balcony where you could appreciate the full band and
also enjoy a more refreshing experience. The night opened with the amazing SATAN’S SATYRS with a very nice easy-to-listen-to and relaxed stoner rock, the mood was set for the night. The band from Virginia, US, really caught my attention as the opener for the night, and seeing how glamorous and stylish their performance was, which matched with their colorful, ’90s-infused outfits. You could hear a lot of influence in their sound by ELECTRIC WIZARD and BLACK FLAG. The band was very energetic and charming like BLACK FLAG but also with a psychedelic, down-tuned sound influenced by ELECTRIC WIZARD that really captivated us. This is no surprise since vocalist Clayton “Claythanas” Burgess is a fan of ELECTRIC WIZARD and he sent them demo tapes and was later asked to join the band. The audience connected with the band as soon as they stepped on stage on never let the connection go.
After the first band, UNTO OTHERS from Portland, US, were set to play. They have previously toured with very renowned
bands like GAAHLS WYRD and TRIBULATION. You could easily recognize the doom and Gothic metal influences with an
essence that was dark and captivating for the audience. People were singing with their eyes closed, really connecting to the
moment and the band’s performance. Their style reminded me of good old TYPE O NEGATIVE and other Gothic metal bands
from the 2000s like HIM, HÉROES DEL SILENCIO from Spain, and THE CURE with soft and deep vocals, dark aesthetics, and
a particular style on the guitar which was one of the highlights for this band, showed a good presence on stage, this show sets
a good tone for the next band to close the night.
The final performance was already in sight as GREEN LUNG set the stage. The British stoner rock outfit is signed to Nuclear Blast Records and with three albums in their pocket, “Woodland Rites,” “Black Harvest,” and “This Heathen Land,” we’re surprised it took them this long to come to Finland. With a strong BLACK SABBATH influence in their sound, the show was instantly incredible. The band’s production and stage props were simply amazing—hence the big animatronic raven in the center of the stage. The band had a very skilled keyboard player, and in the middle of their set, there was even a solo with a hand drum, which brought some pagan vibes to the show. They had a very nice sound that was refreshing yet classical. The audience was excited from the start and even demanded an encore. They were in luck, since the band played two more songs, “Let the Devil In” and “One for Sorrow,” which ended the evening on a high note.
