The name DIRT started showing up on our radar back in 2019 when they played with OCEANHOARSE for Hoarsefest 2019. Having impressed us with their stylish playing, powerful rock sound, and fantastic energy, we were enthusiastic to hear that they recently paired up with one of our favorite local labels, Ranka Kustannus, for their debut release. This partnership had been announced alongside a new single, “Real World,” which is today’s Featured Single! Be sure to check out our IGTV interview with Aleksi Tiainen and Kasper Koutonen below.
The song starts on a rather dirty (pun certainly intended) guitar riff, before the groovy rhythm section sets in, layering alternative rock sounds with a bit of a heavy push. Aleksi Tiainen‘s vocals have a nice balance between melody and grit, vibrato and clean, and it fits perfectly in with the instrumental sound. The push from the bass helps elevate the track, while the progression is smooth as instruments come in and out, teasing their different elements. The grungy effect on the sound is really effective as well, making this song a laidback banger of a track.
The song also comes with a new video, simple and sharp, done in black and white as the band rocks the fuck out in front of some big screens that are playing both the logo, as well as some images of scenery and snakes to dress it up.
