There really is no place like home, that’s what Children Of Bodom must have thought when they decided to have a tour around Finland, with a concluding three shows in Tavastia, Helsinki as part of their “No Place Like Home” tour. Accompanying Children Of Bodom for these special evenings were thrashers from Jyväskylä Lost Society.

I’m quite fond of both bands but never had the opportunity to see them live inside of a venue. While festival shows are always fun, it’s still a bit of a different atmosphere, so I was happy I got the opportunity to go see them both at the same time on 25 October 2018.

Lost Society came to the stage right on time and kicked off with “Prophecy”. A lot of people have gathered already around the stage, but since the night wasn’t sold out, it wasn’t as packed as it usually would be. This may have had something to do with the all-ages evening, but the amount of extra space was certainly welcome to all the fans.

Lost Society’s music pairs up pretty nicely for the audience with circle pits. While I’m not a fan of moshing and all that sort of things, I couldn’t help but starting to headbang to the almost entire setlist. “Overdosed Brain” soon followed with a lot of excitement of both the band and the audience.

For me, the highlight always remains “I Am The Antidote” because that song is just rad, the fact that the audience was singing along so loudly to the melody, gave me the chills. After an 8 minute set of outstanding thrash metal, my neck muscles already start hurting, but I am ready for the next chapter of the evening.

  2. Overdosed Brain

Before I knew it, Lost Society’s show was over after 8 tracks, but right on time for Children Of Bodom to start playing. The band started their set off with “In Your Face”. This tour has been quite special because each band member gets to draft the setlist. This time it was Henkka’s turn… And boy… Did he have a lot of unexpected songs in store for us, proof of that was immediately the second song of the night “If You Want Peace… Prepare For War”.

The band shredded their way through the whole setlist with a lot of classics and even new songs. “Are You Dead Yet?” got followed by “Morrigan” a song from their latest album. I have no idea how Henkka picked out the songs, but this really felt like one of the best setlists I have encountered with Children Of Bodom.

In total Children Of Bodom played 16 songs for us and coincidentally Henkka picked out more than one of my favorites. You can imagine that I was having a lot of fun, and so where the people around me. Again… A big moshpit formed in the middle of the venue, as songs like “Lake Bodom”, “Needled 24/7”, “Silent Night, Bodom Night”, “Hatebreeder” etc. all blasted from the stage.

After playing the last song of the night “Downfall”, the band had one more surprise for us… The live debut of “Oops!… I Did It Again”, the Britney Spears cover together with Jonna Geagea who entered the stage and sang a lovely duet with Alexi Laiho.

If you’re gonna ask me what the highlight of my evening is, I can’t give a proper response to it. Although the nineties kid in me screams hell yeah Britney bitch. The night was pretty much filled with one classic after another and the thing that stuck by me the most was that Henkka is a pretty awesome setlist creator. Hopefully, they’ll have more concerts of these types in the future.
