For over 15 years, ALTER BRIDGE has been at the forefront of combining hard rock and heavy metal and making it their own genre. The band is now returning with their sixth studio album “Walk The Sky”, released on 18 October 2019 through Napalm Records.

With “One Life”, the mood of the album is set. This isn’t your typical build-up to a record, it’s a very short melodic and beautiful intro track that highlights an almost enchanting vocal delivery by Myles Kennedy. As quickly as the song fades, “Wouldn’t You Rather” kicks in, showing off a classic ALTER BRIDGE sound. With groovy guitars alongside a kick drum, the song provides a perfect real start of the record with a lot of energy. “In The Deep” came a bit as a surprise, especially because it feels a lot lighter, more towards a rock song, with a bright guitar intro, and a more positive atmosphere throughout the song. “Godspeed” continues in the same style, which turns out to be a really motivational and uplifting song that will definitely light up your mind. The song includes well-arranged keyboard sections that really lift the song to a higher level. “Native Son” again touched upon a heavier side, and is perhaps one of my favorite tracks of the album. Songs like “Indoctrination” and “The Bitter End” take a bit more time to get into, but due to their unique kind, peculiar drum patterns and overall dark atmosphere also work really well within the context of “Walk The Sky”. One of my definite highlights of this album is “Forever Falling”, which features Tremonti singing and adds a great addition to the album. The finale “Dying Light”, is one of my favorite releases of 2019, its lyrics, its general atmosphere, from vocal performance to the sound of the guitars, everything in this song is perfect.

With fourteen tracks the album is quite long in length. “Walk The Sky” didn’t have any boring moments for me, from the start until the end I was captivated by the songs, and they never let me go. After the last track of the album, a lingering feeling came over me that made me want to listen to more. “Walk The Sky” draws a lot of elements from the band’s previous releases. The album includes a couple of emotional, deep songs like the opener and the final song, at the same time songs like “Wouldn’t You Rather”, “Godspeed”, “Native Son”, “Walking On The Sky” are going to work excellently in a live setting. That being said, I can’t look forward to hearing these songs live, it’s going to be a kick-ass live show with an album like this!
