One of Finlands (unfortunately) best-kept secrets is the epic melodic death metal band, FROSTTIDE. The band surprised us with a re-release of their EP, “Decedents – Enshrined” about 2 years ago and now, having solidified their line-up with the addition of a permanent bassist (Taneli Jämsä) and guitarist (Paul Thureau), the band is clearly in their strongest iteration yet, as can be shown by their newest single, entitled “We Will Be Gone,” which was released on November 20th, 2020.
There are a couple of remarkable, yet subtle differences in the contemporary FROSTTIDE sound, specifically clear in “We Will Be Gone.” First of all, don’t panic. This is still, first and foremost, FROSTTIDE and their trademark frosty sound that we have all grown to love is still very much present. Yet something about this new release shows a breath of fresh air in their songwriting.
For the past few years, the band’s visual aesthetics have been very cinematographic and beautifully done. With “We Will Be Gone,” FROSTTIDE push forward that cinematographic style in their sound and deliver what could part of the soundtrack to a “Game of Thrones” episode. Beautifully arrange orchestrations, keyboards, impressive drumming, and great vocal performances are the foundations of this song.
All-in-all, it’s more progressive nature was a welcome surprise and we can only warn listeners that winter is coming and along with it, hopefully, comes FROSTTIDE bearing a new album forth with, if the songs will follow the same recipe, an incredible gusto.
