“Cal’s journey begins with him listening to “Sugaan Essena,” an original song from Mongolian band THE HU. That’s not Mongolian you’re hearing though, it’s a language created with the band that’s unique to Star Wars. It’s Cal’s favorite song for ship scrapping or galactic gladiator fights, but why should he have all the fun?” – EA Star Wars
While fans may be divided on whether Disney‘s current takeover of many popular franchises, such as Star Wars and Marvel, is making them into evil overlords, it’s hard to deny that mixing medias is getting really cool. Take “Sugaan Essena” for example. This song was commissioned by EA (Electronic Arts) from Mongolian folk metal bad THE HU, and will be used in the video game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Featuring original lyrics in an original language, this song brings THE HU‘s unique droning “hannu rock” into the public eye, supporting an up-and-coming band while allowing something unique and very cool for fans to be created.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, THE HU have been stuck in Australia as the Mongolian borders are closed. According to the press release, the band are using their time productively, visiting a local recording studio and self-quarantining as the risk levels rise.
