Deathgaze daddies KARDASHEV took their fans by a surprise, releasing a lyric video for a new song entitled “Reunion” just the other day, on February 26th. Does this mean that we are getting a new album from the band, by any chance? Oh, yes! According to the band’s label, Metal Blade, the new KARDASHEV album, “Alunea,” is set for release on April 26th, 2025. The band has been crafting a sequel to the Kardashev Mythos – that is, a set of EP releases comprised of “Progression” (2012), “Excipio” (2013), and “The Almanac” (2017), with this upcoming album picking up where the last song on “The Almanac” left off. This is something to mark on your calendars, my friends. The band’s previous album, “Liminal Rite,” released in 2022, was a brutal and serene peak experience of beauty, and judging by this 6-minute teaser, the new album will be another soul-shattering chapter from the same primal source.

The song is essentially a play on stark contrasts, alternating between the delicate, postrock-ish passages, where vocalist Mark Garrett pulls off his best cherubic vocals, and the breakneck, deathcore riffs, where he switches to his signature ogre delivery. The vocal melody in the chorus is subtly reminiscent of the vintage Annie Lennox hit, “Love Song For A Vampire,” which I reckon is not entirely a coincidence. Yeah, these deathgaze daddies sure know how to tug on your heartstrings, don’t they? In light of this haunting song, it would be an understatement to say that I am extremely stoked to hear what these Arizona rogues have been working on!
