PREMIERE: Vansidian – The Hunt

We’ve been enjoying VANSIDIAN‘s singles for some time now, wondering when they’ll be releasing their debut album or EP. Well, unfortunately, there’s still no news on that front, but today we’ve got another single to premiere for you! This one is called “The Hunt” and features another interesting music video. The song will officially be released independently tomorrow, Friday February 25th, 2022, but you can check it out already today!

Musically, the song opens on a heavy note due to the driven guitars, while vocalist Juha Tretjakov joins in with those rough death metal growls that nevertheless maintain a bit of necessary melody to make for a really strong feel. In between the verses, there is interspersed guitar riffing, as the drums bash forward, occasionally dipping into blast-beats for some fierce flavor. It’s yet another punchy piece, yet isn’t as long as their previous “Stormweaver” or “Code of Shame,” which clock over 6 and 8 minutes respectively; nay, this one is not quite short, but still definitely sweet.

The video starts with Juha sitting at a desk, interestingly looking very sharp and professional from the waist up, in his collared shirt and tie with his hair pulled back in a ponytail, yet as the camera pans around the desk, we see that the shirt is untucked into his tattered black jeans. As the music punches in, he bolts from the desk and flees the office, dropping the aforementioned “nice-looking” pieces of his attire. Running through the forests and streets of Tampere, he passes other band members (there’s a nice little throwback to the Code of Shame video as well), even going so far as to steal one’s pulla [trans: sweet bun], and get flipped off by guitarist Matti Meri-Huhti. I won’t reveal the ending, but it’s liable to give you a chuckle.

Ultimately, with “The Hunt” also included in the roster of singles, this nice selection of songs is looking to make for a pretty solid album!
