Helsinki Psych Fest, organized now for the sixth time, took place at the Playhouse Bar in Vallila, Helsinki. The three-day festival kicked off on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, and wrapped up on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. The first two days were mostly comprised of musical performances, even though there were some dance numbers as well, and an art exhibition lasting for the whole three days. On the festival’s final day on Sunday, however, the focus was on comics with some interesting comic artist interviews, and comic sales tables – not forgetting about music either.
On Saturday, we unfortunately only had time to catch the two last artists of the evening due to a conflicting schedule, namely LOOKING GLASS ALICE all the way from London, UK, and ROOTS AND BONES. Of these two, the visitors from London put up a nice, energetic show. Their act is a mix of electronic music and more traditional pop music. Their visuals and appearance dig deep into the retro-psychedelia section of music, but the songs have got some clever modern twists to them. It’s all very danceable and enjoyable – a very nice visit indeed! The night was then ended in more traditional roots music flavors with the ROOTS AND BONES show. They delivered their folk-to-blues-rock act with sureness and feeling, although a bit sadly the crowd faded away somewhat after LOOKING GLASS ALICE.
