On August 30, 2023, at On The Rocks in Helsinki, we were all set for a dynamic night of deathcore and northcore as HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH and ATLAS took the stage. The gig marked the culmination of HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH‘s European tour in support of their newly released album “Ashen,” with the northcore act ATLAS joining them for the final leg of their summer tour.
Kicking off the night, support act ATLAS, known for their unique blend of metalcore and ancient Nordic influences, set the stage alight. Their shamanic drum rhythms and energetic stage presence created an unexpectedly captivating atmosphere that even sparked some mosh pits among the audience. Their energetic performance made them an ideal opening act, offering a glimpse into their world of northcore.
HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH, featuring Tuomas Kurikka who pulled double duty with ATLAS, took the stage to showcase their latest album’s tracks. Despite some initial technical glitches during setup, the band’s atmospheric lighting and the haunting charisma of singer Filip Danielsson created an enchanting ambiance. Steering clear of gimmicks, the band focused on their music, occasionally having Kurikka engage with the audience in Finnish. Notably, “Instill” stood out, prompting fans to raise their phones to capture the fusion of otherworldly choirs and aggressive sounds. The energetic atmosphere even led a fan to brave crowdsurfing, which hindsight was a little dangerous due to the lack of venue security. Overall, the gig provided an enthralling experience, as HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH‘s new songs came to life before a sold-out crowd at On The Rocks.
