We could call this year’s Holy Saturday a “Heretic Saturday” because of who came to visit Turku on March 30th, 2024. That evening, metal fans gathered in Nirvana to witness a ritual conducted by three bands – BLACK MASS PERVERTOR, BLACK ROCK, and HERETIC.

BLACK MASS PERVERTOR started at 22:30, stepping on stage shrouded in smoke. In their music, they mix black metal with a bit of punk, with lyrics revolving around occultism and Satanism. Their performance was another one of those moments where you go to a concert not knowing anything about the band and you get very pleasantly surprised.

Up next was BLACK ROCK, a duo from Hyvinkää playing black speed metal with a hint of other genres. They hit the audience hard, one fast song after the other, keeping the rhythm solid and heavy, making sure we felt every note in our bones.

The final band of the night was the Dutch veterans of black metal – HERETIC. The club was already packed when they got on stage, full of their devoted fans. The gig started with “Sweet Little Sacrifice” and “Boys From The Void” They played a long set spanning all of their albums. But it wasn’t just about the music – the whole vibe of the concert was insane like we were all caught up in some dark ritual, as you would expect from a black metal band; a truly great experience.
