On a snowy night on March 3rd, 2023, the legends of Finnish melodeath, AMORPHIS, arrived at the Logomo club in Turku as a part of the tour promoting their newest album “Halo.”

AMORPHIS have been captivating audiences since the early 1990s with their unique blend of melodic death metal, progressive metal, and folk music. Their live performances are known for their intense energy, powerful vocals, and stunning stage presence, so the atmosphere of excitement at the club was palpable.

There was no supporting act that evening, so we went straight to the point, with AMORPHIS starting at 20:00 sharp. They opened with “Northwards,” a song from the aforementioned newest album, followed by three more songs from the same release. The setlist was composed both of new songs as well as old classics, such as “House of Sleep” and “Amongst Stars,” a duet with Anneke van Giersbergen, with snippets from the music video being displayed in the background. The way the growls and the clean female vocals intertwined was truly masterful and in no time, they had the whole audience singing along. The lead singer, Tomi Joutsen, is an exceptionally talented performer with contagious energy. His vocals range from powerful growls to melodic singing, and he is able to convey a wide range of emotions through his performance.

One of the highlights of an AMORPHIS concert is their ability to seamlessly blend different genres of music together. They are able to take the audience on a musical journey that is both emotional and thrilling. From their heavy and fast-paced songs to their more melodic and reflective tracks, AMORPHIS are able to keep the audience engaged and entertained throughout their entire set.
