In occasion of the release show for their debut album, “Hymns For Wilderness”, which came out just a week before via Svart Records, we went to check out DUST MOUNTAIN live at Bar Loose. The band features singer Henna Hietamäki (CATS OF TRANSNISTRIA, HENNA & HOUREET) and guitarist Toni Hietamäki (ORANSSI PAZUZU, WASTE OF SPACE ORCHESTRA), with Jukka Rämänen (HEXVESSEL, DARK BUDDHA RISING) behind the drums, as well as bassist Riku Pirttiniemi (DEATH HAWKS), Pauliina Lindellin (guitars, VUONO), and live multi-instrumentalist Jaakko Niemelä completing the lineup.

Warming up the crowd tonight was the stoner/heavy metal band GREEN KING: mission accomplished quite easily thanks to the groovy riffs, which immediately grabbed the attention of those already present.

Shortly after came DUST MOUNTAIN‘s turn. The guys made themselves known worldwide already in the spring when they shared their psychedelic prog folk rock music with the audience of Roadburn Redux via live recording, as part of the Svart Sessions. Mandolin (played by Toni), tambourines, and a wide range of other instruments pulled us back in time towards sounds of decades past, serving as background to the vocals of the singer, Henna.

The expectations following this spring’s performance were fully met tonight with this show, played still in a somewhat intimate atmosphere, even though it took place in front of a good number of people. So much that the audience requested an encore, which was, however, postponed. In the words of the singer herself: “we would still have one more song, but we haven’t rehearsed it yet, so we will play it next time!”
