On July 20th, 2024, in the middle of the festival season, we had a chance to take a break from outdoor gigs and head to Nirvana for a healthy dose of death metal and grindcore with FROSTBITE TERROR, I CURSED, NEUROSURGERY, MALFORMED, CONCRETE ICON, and GUTS.
The first band of the night was FROSTBITE TERROR, a local melodic death metal band from Turku. Next up was I, CURSED, a grindcore act from Pori, who had just released their newest EP earlier this month. The third band of the night was NEUROSURGERY, death metallers from Helsinki. Their whole concept is based on gore and medical themes, and they put on a great show. Following them was another group from Helsinki, MALFORMED. They describe themselves as a band playing “vile death metal,” which was evident on stage with their aggressive riffs and evil, gnarly vocals.
The second to last band was CONCRETE ICON, Turku’s own metallers, who destroyed with their pure, unadulterated death metal mayhem. Finally, as the headliner, GUTS took to the stage. The group from Turku is already a well-established presence on the local death metal scene and was very warmly welcomed by the crowd as the grand finale of the evening. Check our photo gallery below…
