Beyond the Gates, one of the best black metal festivals and one of the biggest ones in Norway is finally back in its original form after 2 years of pandemic. The festival brought Bergen’s black metal scene to life from August 2nd to August 6th. The performances take place at three different venues: Kulturhuset Club, USF Verftet, and Grieghallen. There are also plenty of events and DJ sets during the whole festival so attendees can have fun both during the day and at night, regardless of the time.
On the first day of the festival, the audience had the opportunity to see classics of the Norwegian black metal scene. GAAHL’S WYRD‘s performance featured both songs from Gaahl’s current, moody project as well as from former ones (GORGOROTH and GOD SEED). Next was 1349 bringing their aural hellfire. The only thing missing was the characteristic fire breathing which usually takes place at the start of their concerts. The last of the concert in USF Verftet was ABBATH performing both songs from IMMORTAL’s and ABBATH’s albums. After the ABBATH concert, the event moved to Kulturhuset Club, where attendees could see ME AND THAT MAN. Sivert Høyem, lead singer of the Norwegian rock band MADRUGADA, joined them during the performance.
