Finally, after many years, SUMAC made their Finnish live debut on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022. The creature fronted by Aaron Turner of ISIS fame was accompanied by the most obvious of choices, given the collaboration between the American musician and PHARAOH OVERLORD

The Finnish experimental rock band performed their latest effort “6” in its entirety for the occasion, which I must say sounded as dark and powerfully hypnotic live as on the record. This version of the band was a perfect fit for what was to come in front of the crowd in this smaller but still moderately crowded Tavastia hall.

Starting about 15 minutes early, SUMAC took over the stage and damn it was loud. The gig went beyond expectations, the intricate as well as powerful guitar riffs echoing in the venue, setting up the soundtrack for Turner’s raw vocals. The richness of the four elaborate songs performed during the show gave the opportunity for the audience to fully immerse themselves in this enveloping soundscape. We wouldn’t have expected any less, and as a whole, they sounded even better live than hoped for. Bonus points for the early showtimes – being a Sunday, that’s always appreciated!
