On November 15th, 2024, we witnessed a very special celebration at Utopia in Turku: the local legendary band URN was celebrating 30 years on stage. The veterans of black metal were supported in their celebration by an impressive lineup of black metal bands from across Finland.
HOC EST BELLUM were the first to play, a relatively fresh band on the Finnish black metal scene, having released their first demo just last year. Next, SARVEKAS took to the stage and pummeled the audience with their brutal wall of pagan black metal. The third band of the night, WOMIT ANGEL from Tampere, delivered a crushing mix of thrash punk and black metal that kept the energy high.
Following them, MORGAL took to the stage. The metallers from Mikkeli played a long, relentless set packed with tremolo picking, blast beats, and snarling, growly vocals that embodied the ferocity of the genre. The fifth band of the night, BLOOD CHALICE, left the audience stunned with their theatrical performance, including a ritual on stage complete with blood and animal carcasses as decor.
Finally, the headliner, URN, took the stage. Their sound, honed and perfected over three decades, showcased black metal’s dynamic potential in a performance that was nothing short of a masterclass. It was a true treat for all lovers of the blackest of metal. Check our photo gallery here…
