As we kick 2024 out the door and welcome 2025 with open arms, join us for a series of interviews with artists who’ve braved the year’s riffs, breakdowns, and questionable soundchecks. We’re diving into their triumphs, challenges, and everything that kept the music industry alive and kicking. We sat down with rock outfit GINGER EVIL to hear how they experienced 2024.
Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions. I’d like to ask you some questions about 2024, how was the year for you?
Hey, nice meeting you. 2024 has been quite a busy year for us so far; we’ve released five well-received singles accompanied by three music videos and two lyric videos, which have been viewed close to 200K times already. So it’s been great. On top of that we just recently released a 6 song EP ”Hands Move To Midnight.” One of the biggest highlights has of course been the live shows we’ve played this year. Not many, but it’s always quality over quantity so to speak.
Last week, you announced the release of your debut album. Was 2024 mostly dedicated to writing/recording music for that?
We haven’t done any recording this year as the whole album was recorded in 2023. The original plan was to release our ”The Way It Burns” debut album this November, but our record label Frontiers Music wanted to release an EP instead. That way we get more time to get everything ready for the album release. As far as songwriting goes, we’ve been writing and demoing songs for album number two. So personally, I’m really excited to get back to the studio as soon as possible to create new GINGER EVIL songs.
You also had a show last week in Helsinki. What were some of the highlights of that evening?
The biggest highlight for these last shows was that a good amount of people showed up. It’s pretty hard to get people to come to the shows mid-week, especially when you’re a fairly unknown band. Seeing so many people at the gigs has been really really cool. The more shows we play, the more comfortable we feel on stage. We’re still a new band, so it takes time to get everything in place.
Did you experience any challenges this year related to creating your debut effort?
As I said, the whole album was recorded and mixed in 2023. I’d say the only challenge we have experienced this year with the album is how to promote the singles, how to stand out amongst all singles released this year, and how to make music videos that are interesting and have the same quality as the videos back in the ’80s and ’90s. It’s not just the music, it’s how to present it to people to get noticed.
What can we expect from Ginger Evil in 2025?
Hopefully, we get to tour a lot supporting the album. There will be a music video or two coming in early 2025. The next single, ”Black Waves,” will be out on January 11th, 2025, and the full album will be out in the shops on February 14th, 2025. All things come and go in cycles, right? For some reason, I have a hunch, that all generic and disposable music will be on the back seat in the near future. Music created by real people with raw emotions straight from the heart will never ever go out of fashion. Trust me on this one, it is a fact.
