As we bid farewell to 2023, come along with us for a series of interviews with a few artists. We’ll chat with them about their experiences, challenges, and successes throughout the year. These talks give you a close-up view of what happened in the metal music scene in 2023. We chatted with MERTA to see how the alternative metal band have experienced 2023.
We learned that MERTA have been currently working on a new album, the first single, “Katso mua silmiin,” was released in 2023. Do you overall feel like 2023 has been a productive year for the band?
Well, yes! We have been working hard around our new album all year. Also, we have been working out the live outfit and tech as well. So, it has been a very productive year.
Was there anything that you felt was still missing in 2023 that you would still like to achieve as a band?
Hmm, hard question. Finishing the songwriting process for this album would be a nice thing. We are almost done with the tracks, but we are also very precise with songs. We want this third album to be the best MERTA album.
Is there anything you learned during 2023?
Friendship is the key to everything! We parted ways with our guitarist Ossi during the spring. When that happened, I think, for the first time, we realized what a great team we are when we are together. After that, I’m confident that nothing will stop us in the future!
Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2023?
Well, yes! There’s this young and talented band called LASTOUT. I’m fortunate to be co-working on their album. It’s going to be huge!
What can we expect from MERTA in 2024?
Surely, we are going to release the best rock album that the year 2024 can offer. Also, we’re going to do a lot of live shows and hopefully a bunch of festivals!
