Some artists decided to work on solo projects during 2021, as they finally had some more time on hand without touring. One of those musicians is Sami Hinkka, known as the bass player in folk metal outfit ENSIFERUM and power metal act METAL DE FACTO. We asked him how productive his 2021 was, so check out what he said below…

What musical goals did you set for 2021? Did you achieve them?

My goal was to compose new material and write lyrics for ENSIFERUM, METAL DE FACTO, and my solo band ssSHhh. All these things progressed, but to be honest, not as much as I would’ve wanted. I was lucky enough to find a day job when COVID started that gives financial safety, but the price is that there are other responsibilities besides that, so I haven’t had too much time for music lately, but I have my hopes up that 2022 will be better for all of us.

Were you able to dedicate as much of 2021 to your project/band as you had hoped?

No.

What were some of the highlights you realized in 2021?

The few gigs we had felt like they were something out of this world and really made me appreciate my ”band families” on a total new level.

Is there anything you learned during 2021?

Take nothing for granted. I know it sounds cliché, but nowadays, I’m more grateful for many things in my life. Oh, and I did learn a lot about mixing and studio working in general while working with my solo material.

Have you (re-)discovered any new music during 2021?

Not really.

What can we expect from you in 2022?

I hope to release some new music and tons of gigs. Crossing my fingers here.
