BLAME ME!, an alternative rock outfit from Helsinki, played at Semifinal, Helsinki on a Thursday winter evening. Formed in 2015, the band combines 2000s alternative rock, with their own blend. The band released their debut EP "Anywhere, Anytime" in 2017.
Think PARAMORE, but combine it with Finnish melancholy and sounds, BLAME ME! write emotive songs, but their performance isn't like that at all. With an massive amount of energy the band managed to captivate their audience from start until the end. Vocalist Bini Silvennoinen takes the lead in this, and is clearly meant to be in stage. She jumps around on the stage and makes sure that she's seen every corner of it. Passionate and polished, her presence on stage was captivating, to say the least.
Launching into previously released songs from their EPs such as "Reflections", "Traces", "Envious (Of Your Self-Righteousness)", and "Trauma" to name a few, BLAME ME! really brought back those nostalgic memories of side-cut fringes, and black nail polish. The early 2000s was a great time to be alive, and that's what the band must have thought as well, while playing "Misery Business" a cover of PARAMORE.
This evening, for me, was all about discovery. It was the first time that I had seen BLAME ME! play live, the first time I had immersed myself in their songs. What impressed me was the amount of energy, I may have changed my music style considerably since the early 2000s, but this really did feel like a successful throwback Thursday, and I know what makes an excellent show. I hear this band is going to participate in the TUSKA TORSTAI competition, if you attend any of the shows, make sure you vote for this band, they will certainly deliver on the festival stages this summer, now they just need to get there!
