What to expect at Brutal Assault 2025: Doom and Stoner Metal

Both doom and stoner metal are heavy like oil rigs and thick like mazut. Thus it’s the perfect match to put together in our next overview.

First and foremost, good news everyone! MASTODON will be back in the Fortress. They’re a beast to reckon with for sure. They’re a hard bunch to classify as they roam among genres as they see fit but always end up with explosive results. Second news will not be as cheerful, maybe a little sombre – British legend ORANGE GOBLIN is arriving to Brutal Assault on their farewell tour. Brits decided that 2025 will be the year of their last tour. They will give the last 14 shows performances throughout spring and summer and call it quits. We cannot see a better occasion to spot them live. Especially as they are a real treat on stage, absolute pleasure to watch. Fellow Brits from GREEN LUNG will join Orange Goblin on stages of Fortress Josefov. They have quite a unique spin on doom metal infusing the lyrics with English folklore and myths while being inspired by NWOBHM bands sonically. Last but not least Americans from REZN have quite a hypnotic quality to their music while being open to experimentation with psychedelic or progressive motifs. There’s a sense of spaciousness in their songs which will be a much appreciated interval between more intense acts.

PARADISE LOST needs no introduction as they have well earned their place in the metal hall of fame. Mainly for being pioneers in death/doom metal and creating so much fantastic material for fans to cherish for almost four decades. Germans BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE are quite hard to classify. Their combination of darkjazz and ambient is soothing while being particularly eerie. Think of them as a soundtrack to a noir movie or comic book that you cannot stop binge watching or reading. Doom and heavy metal go hand in hand which is proven by American CRYPT SERMON. Swedish MONOLORD doesn’t technically do anything new in the field of stoner or doom metal. But they do it so well! Definitely a force to be reckoned with in their respective field. Aaron Stainthorpe from My Dying Bride is a very busy man, so busy in fact that he brought HIGH PARASITE to life. He describes it as death pop and it does indeed contain echoes of gloominess of MDB as well as catchier elements. It’s an interesting beast and one worth seeing. KLIDAS is a fairly new Italian act that dabbles in a glorious mix between experimental jazz, electronica, and psychedelic rock. ALUK TODOLO is almost austere in their expression. It’s an instrumental noise rock with psychedelic and black metal elements. Their compositions meander like tangled ropes and are at the same dark like tar. Lastly, ARTHUR BROWN. An undisputed psychedelic/shock rock legend who influenced a whole generation of future stars with his 1968 hit “Fire”, a hit that so many know without necessarily associating it with its author. The living legend, who will be 83 years old this summer, will convince you in the Fortress that age is just a number and genre boundaries are just an abstract concept.
