Grima & Ultar: Pagan black metal and Lovecraftian darkness in Turku’s Nirvana

Summer is a time of open-air festivals, but that doesn’t mean we should forget about indoor gigs. The summer schedule in Turku’s Nirvana is dripping with good music, and on June 12th, 2025, it will be hosting a true treat for any black metal fan. Last year, the arrival of the band GRIMA from Siberia was halted due to visa issues, but this year the band is coming in its full glory, supported by ULTAR and local black metallers from AMURTA.

GRIMA is a melodic black metal band, whose theme revolves around the worship of the power and magic of ancient forests. Its supreme deity is Grima, a powerful spirit that protects the life of the forest and mercilessly punishes those who do not respect it. ULTAR is a post-black metal band with music deeply rooted in Lovecraftian themes.
