Since the announcement of THE OCEAN’s visit to Helsinki, we had our sights set on checking them out. The German modern metal outfit has emerged as one of the most interesting names in recent years, and their last visit in 2022 was heavily hyped, so we were eager to see what the band, touring on their “End of an Eon” tour, had to offer. So, on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, we entered the premises of On The Rocks with high expectations.
The night was opened by BIPOLAR ARCHITECTURE, a German-Turkish post-metal band. They had some of their more enthusiastic followers lined up in the front row well before the show, though the audience was still trickling in as they started. The warm-up act was nicely suited for the evening—melodic yet rhythmically enchanting. While one could hope for a bit more crowd interaction, the band earned applause and cheers by the end of their set.
No question, however, that the crowd was there to see THE OCEAN. And the band delivered. The show was split into two sets: the first, a good 40 minutes of their newer material, and the second, almost an hour and a half of older tracks. The newer material, more emotional and chilled, set the audience in a relaxed mood, while the later set featured more aggressive material, with the crowd storming into a pit and vocalist Loïc Rossetti even crowdsurfing. By the end of the night, a sweaty, smiling crowd poured out of the venue.
We hope to see THE OCEAN back soon! Check our photo gallery below.
