August in Finland also means it’s time for us to head out to Viikinsaari in Tampere for Saarihelvetti for another summer festival run! This year, Saarihelvetti took place on August 4th and August 5th and boasted bands like TURMION KÄTILÖT, MOONSPELL, DECAPITATED, DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA, HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY, and many more!
Finnish summer has been a little lackluster this year, so even Saarihelveti wasn’t able to escape at least some rain. Thankfully, most of the rain passed, although the festival area started to turn into a big mud pool soon after its audience started to arrive. The first day included Rovaniemi-based SUOTANA, who recently released their new album, “Ounas I,” as well as KAUNIS KUOLEMATON who we usually only spot in dark and smokey venues. MUSTAN KUUN LAPSET played one of their last shows before calling it quits, so we were happy to see them one final time! We made some golden memories during BAT & RYYD‘s show.
Our personal highlight of the day, however, by far was the Greek metal act ROTTING CHRIST. They were not the only international act set to play on the first day, as we were also happy to see the performance of MOONSPELL.
