On April 30th, 2025 we had a chance to catch two excellent metal bands during the May Day celebrations: ALTAR OF DESPAIR and SHEREIGN were both set to play a gig in Turku’s Nirvana.
The club just started to fill when the first band of the night, ALTAR OF DESPAIR, took to the stage. They’re a young deathcore group from Turku with a fresh sound and a lot of creative ideas. They entertained the crowd for a little under an hour, delivering a diverse set and joking around with the audience in between songs. To celebrate May Day, they brought some balloons on stage, which resulted in singing on helium, which was rewarded with loud applause.
The evening’s headliner was SHEREIGN, a groove metal band from Finland, who didn’t just perform—they commanded. Their contact with the audience was just a great as their set. They played a lot of songs from their freshly released album “Black Halo,” which came out earlier this year. Overall, it was a great evening full of even better music. Check our photo gallery here…
