While the town of Nokia is quite well known for their production of rubber and cell phones, they aren’t exactly known for putting on a lot of shows. However, on April 29th, 2023, BATTLE BEAST paired up with CRIMSON SUN for a show at Kerhola, so we went to check it out!
The gig was designed to be available for all ages, which allowed for some families to show up with their children… this seems to be happening a little bit more lately, and we’re not necessarily complaining, as everything went smoothyly. It’s nice to see the younger generations getting opportunities to see metal shows!
CRIMSON SUN were first up, with their fun modern melodic metal, though the show was noteworthy for the lack of bassist Jukka Jauhiainen on stage. Their set was vibrant nevertheless, with a solid balance of material from their two albums, with some highlights being “Fate of Nora,” “Last Day on Earth,” and of course, all of their singles!
BATTLE BEAST, of course, put on a solid and entertaining show, which is what we’ve come to expect from them at this point. The show was still largely favoring their 2022 album, “Circus of Doom,” with the title track, “Russian Roulette,” and “Master of Illusion” – the latter of which kicked off the encore – being some of the highlights, though it’s always great to hear awesome tracks like “Familiar Hell,” “King for a Day,” and “Beyond the Burning Skies”… but they really could stand to bring back one or two classics like “Black Ninja” into their set.
Ultimately, it was a great night to find oneself in Nokia! It’d be cool to see these two bands performing together again sometime outside of random small towns!
