October 28th, 2025, was Fabio Frizzi‘s turn to perform alongside Fulci‘s Zombi 2 in a dedicated composer’s cut, bringing truly to life the music as the audience in the theater watches people being chased and bitten by zombies. Not bad for a Tuesday evening, uh? Savoy-Teatteri is not new to these kind of performances, it’s here that for example Claudio Simonetti brought to life some of his most popular horror soundtracks (“Tenebre”, “Suspiria”, “Dawn of the Dead”) along with the respective movie screenings.
The main event was preceded by LEVINSKY‘s show, as the local dark wave artist with his cinematic soundscapes, and being a big fan of these cult horror classics made in Italy, it fit the bill like a glove. It was a good opportunity for him to play the new “Fathoms,” released last month via Neo Helsinki Records, along with the album’s visuals on screen. Surrounded by all the instruments ready on stage for the later show, he entertained the audience for a half-hour-long set with keyboards to get everyone in the right mood. LEVINSKY is a well-known name to fans of dark electronic music, with his frequent participation, for instance, as part of the Helsinki Synth City collective, and tonight, his performance was once again well received by the fans.
Following this prelude and a short break, Frizzi and his accompanying orchestra entered the stage, introducing the show and welcoming the audience before the actual movie began. It’s always interesting to see a movie with the band playing the songs live, although admittedly it might take some getting used to when seeing the musicians just waiting for the next musical bit as the movie goes on. Of course, it requires some concentration, but then again, by now they have surely been doing this enough times to know exactly when the next piece is going to start.
The movie itself is quite short, as per tradition back in the days, so once the ending titles started scrolling there was still a good half an hour before the end of the show, in which the band played other themes from famous collaborations between the Italian maestro and the director – thus the name of this tour, “Frizzi 2 Fulci” – such as “Manhattan Baby” and “Sette Note in Nero” (a.k.a. “The Psychic”). After another round of applause, the composer took a few more minutes to tell the anecdote of how one of his pieces (“Ibo Lele”) had been eventually used by the Finnish singer Taiska as a base for his song “Mombasa” (which was then used in the Finnish movie “Menolippu Mombasaan” from 2002). The evening ended with the original being played while Frizzi asked if someone in the audience could sing along with the Finnish lyrics (if that actually happened, it was very very hard to hear from the other seats in the theater).
After the conclusion and a short break, the band took the time to greet the fans, which was also a welcome relief from the pouring rain outside for many. All in all, another pleasant evening mixing classic horror movies and their music. We need more events like these! Check our photo gallery here…
