One of 2024’s more exciting tours definitely was the Rising from the North co-headlining tour of melodic death metal juggernauts IN FLAMES and ARCH ENEMY. They also brought SOILWORK, another very popular Swedish melodeath act with them. On October 27th, 2024, they had a stop at Velodrom in Berlin.

SOILWORK were tasked to warm up the German crowd for the occasion. Their setlist was short but packed with baggers. Opening the set with an instant headbanger “Stabbing the Drama,” the crowd went into a frenzy. They gave us “Distortion Sleep,” “Övergivenheten,” and closing with “Stålfågel.” The crowd sang along to most of the songs.

IN FLAMES ignited the fans with the opener “Cloud Connected.” The 16-song set was the perfect cocktail of classic melodeath bangers like “Deliver Us,” “Food for the Gods,” and “Triggered,” in-between stuff, and new material from the latest album “Foregone.” The German audience tends to be mild and polite and that’s why vocalist Anders Fridén reminded them to do crazy things like a circle pit, throw your friend in the air, and crowd surf. That was how the arena transformed into a whirlpool and surfing zone. The stage had a massive floating entity from the album “Foregone,” but apart from that, it was minimal. IN FLAMES don’t need an intricate stage design, instead, they let their music speak.

Co-headliner ARCH ENEMY opened their set with “Deceiver, Deceiver” and Alissa White-Gluz‘s epic jump to the stage. They continued with “The World Is Yours” and “War Eternal.” ARCH ENEMY keeps the quality high in everything; from sound to stage visuals. A big LED pentagram lit red menacingly above the stage, smoke machines created volume and the sound was crisp. Alissa had a beautifully crafted silver jumpsuit and she moved elegantly on the stage while giving powerful gritty vocals. They played their new single “Liars & Thieves” which premiered on this tour. Overall, this tour was a blast and a great dose of true Swedish melodic death metal. Check our photo gallery here…
