When music lovers hear the words “music festival,” they usually imagine a large outdoor event filled with famous artists, expensive tickets, and a mad rush of people trying to get the best spot. But what if an event could be held in a small town, allowing local and emerging artists to show off their talents and get a chance to perform for a live audience? That’s the idea behind the Turku Band Festival. This year’s edition took place from January 25th to January 28th, 2023. The festival features a variety of genres, ranging from rock, metal, and punk to alternative and jazz.

I attended the concerts on Thursday, January 26th. There were three bands playing in Utopia that I had the chance to catch. First off, KATKOS entered the stage. They played a short, but powerful set, warming up the audience for the upcoming performances. The second band of the evening was PETTYNEET KATSEET, who played an interesting mixture of hard and soft rock, with hard riffs and classic vocals. The headliner of the evening was KABUKI DROP, a punk band with great stage energy and catchy songs.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend seeing any of them live if you ever get the chance. Check out our photo gallery here…
