Almost exactly a year after their long-awaited comeback show in Oulu, FOR MY PAIN… finally made their way back to Helsinki—and about time, too. The Finnish gothic metal veterans took over On the Rocks on May 24th, 2025, with support from DEAD END SCENE, making it a proper family affair… literally.
Having DEAD END SCENE open the night wasn’t exactly shocking if you’ve been keeping track of the Kylmänen family tree. Their frontman Mikko Kylmänen is the son of FOR MY PAIN…’s backing vocalist Jarmo Kylmänen and nephew of lead vocalist Juha Kylmänen. That said, Mikko held his own just fine. And just when you thought this show couldn’t get any more family-friendly (in the most Goth way possible), Jarmo and Juha made a surprise on-stage appearance during one of DEAD END SCENE’s songs.
Musically, DEAD END SCENE couldn’t be further from FOR MY PAIN…—they’re more of a modern metal/alt-metal mix, while FOR MY PAIN… brings the signature melancholic drama that only Finnish gothic metal can deliver. But the contrast worked nicely and gave the night some texture.
When FOR MY PAIN… finally took the stage, the venue had filled up nicely. No surprise there—their return has been met with open arms. They leaned heavily into material from their classic album “Fallen,” which definitely pleased the longtime fans, but also made room for their new singles released over the past year—proof that this isn’t just a nostalgia trip, they’re clearly back for real.
The only minor heartbreak of the night was that they swapped out their beloved cover of “Joutsenlaulu” (a fan favorite) for “Hetken Tie On Kevyt.” Not a bad song by any means, but still, we have feelings, okay? Overall, it was a strong night that balanced old favorites with new beginnings. FOR MY PAIN… might have taken a long break, but now that they’re back, it really feels like they’re here to stay—and I, for one, am ready for more. Check our photo gallery here…
