On October 23rdst, 2022, SKÁLD with GILHEM BASQ hit Columbia Theater in Berlin as part of their European Tour

GUILHEM DESQ breathed new life and innovation into an old-world instrument: the hurdy-gurdy. He opened the show with sounds of traditional European folk, which mesmerized the public instantly.

SKÁLD is a French musical project that draws its inspiration from Nordic mythology. Unfortunately, their singer Justine Galmiche wasn’t present due to health issues and, as later was revealed, she left the group along with Pierrick Valence. The new vocalist, Lily Jung, was the opposite of Justine both in style and singing and it felt odd and unfitting. Nevertheless, SKÁLD managed to take the audience into their universe by singing in Old Norse and English about the history of the Vikings. The band played an impressive playlist consisting of compositions from “Viking Chants” and “Viking Memories.” Some highlights were “Ódinn,””Grótti,””Villeman Og Magnhild,””Ó Valhalla,” and “Þat Mælti Mín Móðir.”

Overall the show was excellent, highly recommended for fans of MYRKUR, DANHEIM, WARDRUNA, and HEILUNG.
