Another sold-out and sweaty evening at Kuudes Linja on July 17th, 2024, despite a brief rain shower that lasted just long enough to cover most of the trip to the venue, brought us some green winds from North Carolina, with WEEDEATER taking the stage tonight. The doomy stoner/sludge trio was supported by the local band KAISER.
KAISER took the stage with enthusiasm and put on a lively show that was enjoyed by the crowd as they slowly filled the venue. The drummer and the singer/guitarist were especially active throughout the entire performance, which helped engage the fans and get them all warmed up for the main band.
When it was WEEDEATER‘s turn, unfortunately, technical issues prevented the guys from starting on time, effectively delaying their show by at least 40 minutes. This delay meant the gig was cut short due to the venue’s strict schedule. Despite the setback, the atmosphere remained quite relaxed, and people patiently waited. During the delay, Dave “Shep” Shepherd even attempted to play the drums for a little while until they finally managed to perform.
Technical problems aside, the gig was pretty much what you’d expect: irreverent, involving whiskey and joints, and a jumping Dixie strolling with his bass. The drum setup took away quite a bit of space as they were moved more to the center and turned diagonally towards Dave and his guitar. In the end, the three still provided a good experience for the fans, especially for one overly-excited dude who came with two beers, banging on the stage with his fist, and continuously dropping his hat, his phone, and whatever else he had with him.
Unfortunately, the show had to be cut short, so after about 45 minutes, it was already time to join one of the queues—outside or to the restroom—depending on one’s priority. Back out in the night, the weather had turned decent again, so quite a few people were still outside the venue, chilling and smoking.
We’ll see next year around the same time which band between WEEDEATER, BONGZILLA, or the like will visit Kuudes Linja, as it has become a summer tradition to have a laid-back stoner mid-July show, which is never a bad idea! Check our gallery here…
