After leaving NIGHTWISH in 2021, Marko Hietala started a very successful solo career and has since released two albums, “The Pyre of the Black Heart” and “Roses from the Deep.” The current tour across Finland and the very reason why we could see him perform at Turku’s Logomo on February 15th, 2025, is that he is currently promoting his full-length album, released on February 7th, 2025.
The show kicked off with “Frankenstein’s Wife” and “Rebel from the North” from his latest album. The set consisted of both his own songs as well as covers from his time in Vain elämää such as Hector’s “Olet lehdetön puu” and Hanna Pakarinen’s “Mörkö mainio,” which added a uniquely Finnish flavor to the set.
The real showstopper came when Noora Louhimo from BATTLE BEAST joined him on stage to sing the duet on “Left on Mars.” After the song ended, Noora stayed on stage to sing some of, the NIGHTWISH classics like “The Islander” and “Weak Fantasy,” which, interestingly, were the songs that Marko co-wrote for the band. A TAROT medley, including “Wings of Darkness” and “The Punishment” further cemented the night as a celebration of Hietala’s musical legacy. The night closed with an encore consisting of a BLACK SABBATH cover, “War Pigs” and a ballad from Marko’s first album, “Truth Shall Set You Free.” Check our photo gallery here…
