On May 14th, 2025, we had a chance to witness true goregrind mayhem. In one night, we could see the reigning and rising stars of the genre, PUTRID DEFECATION, CUMBEAST, and GUTALAX, perform live at Turku’s Nirvana.
The evening’s first band was PUTRID DEFECATION, a promising group from Epsoo, who had just released their first full-length album, “Tales from the Toilet” earlier this year.
The second band of the night was Turku’s own CUMBEAST, the true masters of unserious grindcore. CUMBEAST’s concerts are always a lot of fun thanks to their amazing contact with the audience and Snoop Rott Iirot’s bubbly personality. They played a setlist composed of their most well-known and fun songs, such as the classic, “Analconda,” “Cocktopus,” alongside fresh material such as “Troll Named Scrot,” the lead single from their latest release. The crowd particularly enjoyed their performance of “Åbomination,” a super fresh song from their new album “Fairytale of Filth,” released just two days prior. The show was complemented by their signature green glowy sneakers, completing a true CUMBEAST experience.
Finally, it was time for the headliner, GUTALAX, the Czech legends of goregrind. They came out in hazmat suits and masks or goggles, as they always do, which, given the temperature in Nirvana, was on a whole new level of dedication. They played their true best hits, introduced us to their heroes “Buttman” and “Diarhero,” and allegedly guitarist Pavel’s “Robocock.” It’s safe to say we’ve been through the “Shit of it all” together and returned home enriched by the true sheer power of toilet humour and great music.
