On April 11th, 2025, we had the opportunity to see three great rock and metal bands at Turku’s Nirvana. The evening started with a performance of Turku’s very own death metal formation, FURIOUS DESCENT. They delivered a concise and neat set, introducing themselves to the local audience. They warmed the audience up nicely for the evening’s second band, which was BLACK TOTEM. The group from Turku describes their own style as Gothic macabre death rock, which sums their vibe up pretty accurately. They played songs from across their whole discography and left the stage to thunderous applause. Finally, the headliners took to the stage, GEHENNAH, thrash metallers from Sweden, who started in 1991 as a VENOM cover band, but decided to write their own songs and released four LPs and multiple EPs since then. They made the entire club swing and headbang, and there was even a little mosh pit if I’m not mistaken. Overall, the evening was a great success, filled with great atmosphere and even better music.
