On the evening of September 10th, we ventured into the heart of Hamburg to visit the legendary Bambi Galore which has set up shop in a former bunker. Despite the splendid late summer weather, die-hard heavy metal fans flocked to Bambi to catch RAVEN with HIGH SPIRITS as their supporting act and we decided we couldn’t miss it either.
HIGH SPIRITS is an American band hailing from Chicago, Illinois, and they’ve been rocking the scene since 2009. Blending elements of heavy metal and hard rock, this quintet truly lives up to their name with their uplifting themes and electrifying stage presence. The audience was quickly won over by the infectious choruses of hits like “In the City,” “Thank You,” and their latest single, “In the Moonlight.”
HIGH SPIRITS unquestionably set the stage perfectly for the evening’s headliner: RAVEN. The legendary RAVEN, hailing from Newcastle, England, stormed onto the stage with the same mind-blowing energy that has defined them since their inception in the mid-’70s and their genre-defining dominance throughout the ’80s. When we say mindblowing, we mean it, and there’s a good reason why their performance and music style have long been described as “athletic” – a characteristic that has evidently remained unchanged over the years.
With their well-established NWOBHM-style and their dominant speed and power influences, RAVEN have carved out their own path alongside heavyweights like METALLICA and IRON MAIDEN. These qualities, coupled with the band’s unwavering passion for their craft, form the cornerstone of their monumental legacy, a legacy that the crowd celebrated with thunderous applause and roaring enthusiasm from start to finish of their set.
