On March 1st, 2024, we had the opportunity to enjoy the performance of a vocal duet featuring Johanna Kurkela and Johanna Iivanainen at the Logomo club in Turku. The Johannas, along with Mikko Iivanainen and Timo Kurkela, perform under the name of ALTAMULLAN ROAD and have been on a tour around Finland since the beginning of the year.
The venue was just a few seats short of being sold out, so at 19:00 sharp, an almost full auditorium brimmed with anticipation of what was to come. The lights dimmed, and the music began to play. The atmosphere was solemn and grand, as soft sounds gently whispered within the walls of the club—something yours truly isn’t very much used to, frequenting mostly metal gigs.
The whole performance lasted for over two hours and consisted of two parts. The Johannas and the band played both their own songs and covers of popular music, such as “Fields of Gold” by Sting or Eddie Vedder’s “Society.” It only heightened the overall atmosphere of coziness and familiarity one could sense while listening to the band play. The whole thing felt just like a gathering of friends, sitting around a fireplace on a cold snowy winter night, singing and enjoying music together; a truly unforgettable experience I’d recommend to anyone.
