Ever since the release of their new album, “How’s the Heart,” the Finnish melodic death metal outfit BLOODRED HOURGLASS has been playing numerous shows in Finland. One of their stops, on December 1st, 2023, was at Kannusali in Espoo. Since they brought along the killer alternative metal act LUNA KILLS, we decided it was the perfect time to attend another show in Espoo!
The alternative metal act LUNA KILLS started five minutes later than planned, which was fortunate for me as I unfortunately got stuck in traffic and arrived at the venue a bit late. There were a few people sporting LUNA KILLS‘ shirts, clearly there specifically for the show. We’ve become quite accustomed to the band’s endless energy, with singer Lotta Ruutiainen kicking, jumping, and dancing on stage while maintaining pitch in her vocal performance. The band also included two new songs in their set, “Love U” and “Slay Ur Enemies,” which sounded slightly different from their current material but were absolute bangers. It was great to see the band having so much fun performing them.
Then it was time for BLOODRED HOURGLASS. I have been told a few times that Espoo is usually tough to sell out because it’s so close to Helsinki, and people usually attend shows there. However, BLOODRED HOURGLASS drew quite the crowd, as Kannusali had filled up nicely. It was the first time seeing singer Jaredi Koukonen without a cap on stage, which was strangely something we had to get used to. The band played a set of 14 songs, with most of the tracks dedicated to the new album, “How’s the Heart.” Many people were singing along to the lyrics and headbanging, and at some point, there even was a small two-person moshpit in front. Needless to say, once again, BLOODRED HOURGLASS delivered a top-notch show. Check out our photo gallery here…
