SUBURBAN TRIBE surprised us all by appearing at five Finnish music festivals, and shortly after, they announced the Frozen Asses 2024 club tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, “Primitive.” The tour spanned four cities, concluding with two shows at Tavastia, the final performance taking place on Finnish Independence Day, December 6th, 2024.
Upon arriving at the venue, I found no queue waiting, as the doors had opened well before showtime. Once inside, I was greeted with a cheerful Independence Day greeting. After passing through the cloakroom, I immediately noticed that the audience was significantly older than what I usually see at metal shows. Unfortunately, the crowd was also noticeably more intoxicated, and some attendees seemed to have left their manners at the door. There was a lot of pushing, loud talking, arguing, and even an incident where someone attempted to climb over the fence onto the stage. This behaviour reminded me of company Christmas parties, where those who rarely drink alcohol tend to overindulge when they do.
Despite the disturbances, the show itself was a nostalgic journey to the past. SUBURBAN TRIBE was one of the bands I listened to frequently when I first started my concert photography journey. However, as they stopped performing less than a year after I began photographing concerts, I never had the chance to capture their shows until now. Thankfully, I got to hear all my teenage favorites, but the show began with something even more familiar: the band performed Finland’s national anthem, “Maamme Laulu,” with Mimosa Tuomi as a guest singer.
Perhaps because this was their final show, their stage presence was particularly strong, especially impressive considering their 14-year hiatus. Hopefully, we will hear more from SUBURBAN TRIBE next year. Check our photo gallery here…
