Helsinki-based rock anthem and experimental band, FROZEN FACTORY, are back with their third stand-alone single of ’23 – this time with a brooding sub-3-minute heavy ballad called “Break These Ties For You.”
As they’ve shown before, mixing sounds from metal, alt, prog, and just about anything else makes things interesting. The band intend to be like QUEEN, following their instinct wherever it takes them – as long as there’s meaning, melody, and mood.
Following albums in 2020 and 2022 and a “suspiciously long” 8-track EP in 2021, the band have been getting creative in 2023, working simultaneously on several singles, while not-so-secretly putting together a completely separate album of new material.
“Break These Ties For You” sees the special return of Eetu “Eddie X” Pesu on drums, who hadn’t recorded with the band since 2020’s “Planted Feet” album. That’s not to say FROZEN FACTORY’s regular drummer Marianne Heikkinen is out of the picture – she isn’t.
For those who love guitar solos, this single is the first opportunity to truly hear what DREAMTALE and AFTER INFINITY guitarist, Zsolt Szilagyi, has brought to FROZEN FACTORY’s studio performances, as he completes the song’s crescendo with a beautifully crafted solo. It’s safe to say there’s plenty more of that in store for the future. Just wait and see!
The band’s lead singer Stephen Baker, who co-wrote the song with bassist/producer Tomi Hassinen, had this to say about the song’s meaningful lyrics:
“In a world full of distractions that bring us down, this song is a love letter to what matters most. It’s a promise to do everything possible to stop being distracted and focus on what’s truly important. For many, the main distraction is smartphones, but it could be anything that holds you back from a fuller life. The letter could be to one’s self, family, friends, the planet, or a passion of yours – anything!
Overcoming addictive social media, misleading press coverage, pressures at work, and that feeling that time is going too fast is a huge challenge, but we must find a way. This song was made to feed that determination to finally break those ties, so you can concentrate on what’s important.”
